What is an Ultralight in Thailand?

Updated: Jan 7

Ultralight? Microlight? Weight shift? LSA (ELSA, SLSA), EAB?

In Thailand all this is simplified. We have Ultralight and see a big U on the tail (or somewhere) on your aircraft or HS (hotel sierra). The HS are usually traditional-type certified aircraft (yes like a Cessna) - but not always.

To qualify for an Ultralight your Aircraft needs to be registered and comply with the following limitations:

  • empty weight not above 250kg

  • maximum take-off weight not above 500kg

  • maximum fuel capacity 50ltrs

  • stall speed not above 35knts

  • max level speed 90knts
